Author: International Relations
May 19, 2025

Professor Amy Skonieczny of the International Relations Department has been awarded the prestigious Marcus Transformative Research Award for Spring 2025. The award will support her groundbreaking project, Populist Global Governance, an edited volume under contract with Brill’s Global Populisms series. This work examines how populist leaders and movements reshape international norms and institutions, offering a transformative lens on the evolving dynamics of global governance. As part of the project, Professor Skonieczny will serve as a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley’s Center for Right-Wing Studies and lecture at the University of Pavia and institutions across the EU. Her collaboration with international scholars promises to expand critical discourse on the global impact of right-wing populism, particularly amid the resurgence of Trump-era politics. This award enables Professor Skonieczny to consolidate her expertise, strengthen global scholarly networks, and position San Francisco State University at the forefront of research on populism and international political change.
